You can obtain your kit from ECE Stores – MCLD1032 with your name and proof of purchase.

 

ECE 2nd YEAR PARTS KIT:

 

All incoming second-year students (both ELEC and CPEN) are required every year to purchase the "UBC ECE  Second-Year parts Kit" necessary for the following project courses: CPEN211, ELEC201, ELEC/CPEN291, ELEC292, ELEC391, and Capstone.

Starting WT1 2024, a separate free-of-charge Welcome Tools kit is available upon completion of the mandatory Safety Training 101. This course is free and online on Canvas. To enroll in Safety Training 101, follow the instructions here.

 

 

This year, for CPEN211 you need:

1 x UBC ECE Second-Year Parts Kit
1 x De1-SoC
1 x Welcome Tools kit (Free and only upon completion of mandatory online Safety Training 101 training course)

Note: 

You will only receive/need one "Welcome Tools kit" in total.
The UBC ECE Second-Year Parts Kit is the same kit that is required for ELEC201 and the other courses listed at the beginning of this section. Therefore, you will only need to purchase one in total.

Notice that the kit does NOT include batteries. You will need to supply your own 9V battery and three AA batteries or buy an optional battery set from the ECE Online Store.

 

Where to pick up your kits:

You can obtain your "ECE Second-Year Parts Kit" from ECE Stores – MCLD1032.  You must provide proof of purchase upon picking this up.
You can obtain your "Welcome Tools kit" from MCLD 1017 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 9 am to 3 pm. You must first complete the Safety 101 training course before receiving the Tools Kit.

 

 

For other subsequent project courses, you may be required to purchase specialized additional component Kits.

The contents of the Kits have been carefully optimized to match course requirements and reduce the cost to students and therefore no substitutions will be accepted.

HOW TO CONNECT:

The wires of the battery clip are stranded (bundle of many thin wires), but the tip is tinned (covered with solder)

To connect the clip to the breadboard carefully insert the tinned ends in the breadboard as shown on the picture.

DO NOT CUT AND PEEL THE WIRES:

If you cut and peel the wires you will end with stranded loose wires almost impossible to fit in the breadboard.
