Update 24 August 2023: due to changes made to the card reader setups, you will have to login with your ECE account again to associate your UBCID/FOB with your ECE account.
To remotely access the printer/copiers you need one of the following:
- A wired connection to the ECE network
- A wireless connection to the ubcprivate network
- A myVPN connection to UBC, remember to login with CWL_username.ece
You must also have presented your UBCID/FOB to the card readers on one of the 2 machines and logged in to associate your FOB or UBCID card with your ECE account.
Windows OS:
- Login as Administrator
- From the Windows Start menu run the command “cmd”, a Command Prompt window will open.
- At the Command prompt enter:
start \\papercut.ece.ubc.ca\FindMeVQ # where VQ for Virtual Queue
or if you encounter an error message at this or the following step use
start \\10.93.38.16\FindMeVQ # This employs the IP address of the PaperCut host to bypass issues with the DNS server - After 10 to 20 seconds a pop-up login window will appear, enter:
User ID: UBC_ECE\<your-ece-userID> # replace <your-ece-userID> with your ECE userID not your CWL
Password: <your-ece-password>
- It may take a few minutes to install the driver for this copier, you should see a progress report.
When completed, confirm that you have a new printer installed with a name of the sort “Ricoh IM7000″ or “FindMeVQ on 10.93.38.16“ - Open the Printer Properties Window.
On the Accessories Tab un-select “Copy Tray”. This will enable the finisher options.
Enable option SR 4150. This will enable the HolePunch (US 2 or 3 holes) and Staple options.Now you are ready to print.
Mac OS:

- Follow the instructions below under “Scenario One: My own Mac (single user)”:

- On “Setup the Printers” Step 6
Use the following Device URL: smb://username:password@papercut.ece.ubc.ca/FindMeVQ
Note: be careful to type the string username:password as is, do not substitute with your credentials.
When asked for your login credentials, please use your ECE ID/password. - On “Setup the Printers” Step 8
The printer driver name should be Ricoh IM7000, and setup the Finisher as: SR 4150.

If you ran into issues like: “Printer Name invalid”, replace the server hostname (papercut.ece.ubc.ca) with its IP address: 10.93.38.16.
Linux:
Ubuntu (18.x or higher): please make sure samba package is installed. Then open the printers dialog from the settings, go to “additional settings” at the bottom. Select “Windows printer via SAMBA”, and put in the address: smb:// papercut.ece.ubc.ca/FindMeVQ.You can leave the authentication as “Prompt user if authentication is required”. For Printer properties, please select Ricoh-IM-7000 and choose the PostScript model: Ricoh IM 7000 PS. For installable Options you can set the Finisher to: Finisher SR4150. This will enable you to send print jobs with hole punch or staple options.
After submitting the job:
Print jobs from your PC/laptop will be queued and paused until you sign in on a device (in room K3037) and choose the print-release option,
or by login on the page: https://papercut.ece.ubc.ca:9192/user # login with your ECE ID/password; then select “Jobs Pending Release” on the left.
Please note, you can only access the printers via UBCprivate, or UBC VPN (when you login with your CWL.ece) or if you are wire connected in the department.
